Microsoft's Patch Tuesday for the month of October 2013 is officially taking place today. Microsoft is set to roll out eight security updates, which includes a critical update for Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1.
"Today we’re providing advance notification for the release of eight bulletins, four Critical and four Important, for October 2013. The Critical updates address vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer, .NET Framework and Windows. The Critical update for Internet Explorer will be a cumulative update which will address the publicly disclosed issue described in Security Advisory 2887505," Microsoft stated in an official blog post.
Four of the eight updates are rated Critical and deal with Remote Code Execution. These updates address Windows, Microsoft .NET Framework, and Internet Explorer. For example, Windows 8 will see four Critical updates with one of the updates addressing Internet Explorer 10. Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 will see one Critical update addressing Internet Explorer 11.
The remaining four updates are rated Important and deal with Remote Code Execution and Information Disclosure, affecting Silverlight, Office, and Server software.
Microsoft is set to roll out these security updates later today, approximately 10AM PST. Head over to Windows Update to snag them or sit back and relax as Automatic Updates takes care of the heavy lifting for you!
