Official File Manager for Windows Phone 8.1 coming by the end of May

File Manager

Microsoft's Joe Belfiore answered a lot of important questions about the future of Windows Phone platform at the AMA session on Reddit today. Although Belfiore did mention the feature gap between Windows Phone and other mobile platforms is closing in, there are still a few features which are missing from the OS. One of these features is a file manager. There's good news for all the Windows Phone fans out there: Microsoft is indeed working on a file manager app for Windows Phone, which will be available by the end of May.

Yes, I know it's too good to be true. Belfiore also posted some screenshots of the File Manager app for Windows Phone 8.1, which looks quite promising too. On a side note, he was quite excited that this question was raised, and said, "Yes, we are doing a File Manager for WP8.1! I know a LOT of you are looking for this (thanks for the tweets, I've read them all). In fact, I've been running a build of it on two of my phones for the last week or so and it's getting to pretty good shape. We are expecting to get it into the store HOPEFULLY by the end of May."

The images show that users can explore the device's built-in storage as well as the contents of the SD card. Users will also be able to create new folders, move items to SD card and everything you could do with a file manager. The complete feature set was not revealed, but you can get an idea of it through the posted screenshots.

I'm excited about this, are you? Let us know in the comments below.
