Petition to Microsoft: Continue TechNet or create an affordable alternative to MSDN

Technet

Microsoft recently announced that the company would be killing off the TechNet Subscription service which provided IT professionals access to the latest Microsoft software for an annual fee. The reason behind the company doing this is because more and more people are using the service for its free offerings, not paid.

While new TechNet customers can still purchase a subscription before August 31st this year, existing subscribers can renew before this date also, meaning that the service will fully close in September pf next year. But some subscribers are unhappy with this change and have taken it to Change.org to create a petition. The petition states, “Continue TechNet or create an affordable alternative to MSDN subscriptions.”

“IT Professionals and ISVs need affordable access to Microsoft products normally accessed through TechNet. Please continue TechNet or create an affordable alternative to MSDN subscriptions minus Visual Studio and associated developer tools. Currently, the only comparable MSDN subscription costs $6120,” the petition states.

At the time of this post, there are already 3,000 signatures. If you are one of the many who were impacted by the closure of TechNet, head over to the petition page here and take a look.
