PowerPoint 2013

In an official new PowerPoint blog post, Microsoft revealed that PowerPoint 2013 will feature a default widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9. On top of that, Microsoft has made it easier to convert old slides to the new widescreen format.

“Widescreen, also known as 16:9, HDTV, 720 & 1080p, 13.333”x7.5”, among other names, is the new default aspect ratio in the new PowerPoint. To make your experience with the new dimensions pleasant, we’ve built a brand new set of themes specifically targeting this aspect ratio, and we’ve improved our conversion code so that you can easily make the switch to widescreen from other aspect ratios,” Microsoft stated in an official blog post. Users can select the slide size as widescreen and utilize new themes that support both 4:3 and 16:9 formats. Presenters can switch between aspect rations without stretching the background and design elements, which is great to avoid those pesky layout bugs.

PowerPoint 2013 also features a new Resume Reading feature that allows a presenter to reopen their presentation on the last slide they were on. This feature is great for those who are working on a large presentation and want to re-open it to the last slide they were working on.
