From the rumor mill: Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 brings 2K resolution support and more

Recently, we reported that Windows Phone 8.1 would likely see two GDR updates this year. One update is slated to be released around June and is expected to feature bug fixes. The second update is expected around October and is rumored to feature 2K resolution support, along with support for the Snapdragon 805 processor.

This rumor is not confirmed so we ask you to take it with a grain of salt. The folks over at NPU are citing sources who claim that the second update will add support for 2K resolution, and support for processors greater than the Snapdragon 800.

A device codenamed Qualcomm LiQUID was recently spotted on the GFX Benchmark website, running Windows Phone 8.1. The device featured a Snapdragon 805 CPU and an Adreno 420 GPU. This CPU runs at an impressive 2.7GHz, uses less power, supports Quick Charge 2.0, allows for a 55MP camera, and for a 4K resolution.

Plans might change and perhaps we might see the support added to the first update. Either way, this is an unconfirmed rumor so we’ll just have to wait and see.
