Skype 7.0 brings new UI improvements and cross-service Lync communication

Microsoft’s consumer communication platform has always allowed family and friends to seamlessly communicate, whether it be via voice, video, or text. On the operate side of the spectrum is Microsoft’s business solution, Lync. Two pieces of software that offer similar functionality will now be able to cross communicate thanks to the latest update being pushed out to Skype.

While Lync is a Microsoft communication platform aimed at enterprise users and businesses, it has remained isolated from the company’s consumer solution, Skype. However, now Skype users will be able to call their Lync contacts and vice versa.

“This means Skype and Lync customers can reach even more colleagues, partners and customers, streamlining communications across both work and life,” –Elaine Ansell, Skype

Skype update 7.0 for Windows brings an improved user interface, along with the newly announced Lync integrated. Users will also be able to use a new “compact view” for fitting multiple chat videos on screen.
