Skype adds a (sloth) emoticon

Over the last few weeks, the Skype team has been running the #SkypeSuggestion campaign on Twitter to allow Skype users to give their ideas for new emoticons. In a blog post today, the team shared that “we were overwhelmed and thrilled with the amount of suggestions you submitted.” However, they had to ask the community to vote for their favorite new emoticon between the three choices below:

While all three emoticons look pretty fun, the winner was the (sloth) emoticon. The team explained that “we’ve been working really hard to bring you a very laid back way to express yourself.” Still, they added that “our new lazy friend is perfect for those times when you just can’t get up, need a nap, want to take it slow—or just need a cute sloth in your life”. You can see the result below, and the Skype team also shared a short video showing what it’s like designing Skype animated emoticons.

The sloth emoticon arrived soon after the Skype team introduced “Power Women mojis” to celebrate powerful women, and so Microsoft is offering up something for everyone. Please tell us in the comments if you’re feeling the go-slow attitude with this sloth emoticon, and we’ll follow up after a well-deserved break. Also, let us know if you think the Skype team should slow things down with their ever-increasing emoticons list.
