Slack app on Windows phone

The productivity and messaging software Slack continues its support for the Windows platform with a recent update to its Windows desktop client. Recently, Slack updated and released its Beta client for Windows Phones as well as publically discussing the possibility of native Windows 10 app development.
While Windows 10 users wait for a native Windows Universal App, the development team over at Slack are at least updating their current Windows app with Windows 10 features. The newer version of Slack includes some UI elements that are more in-line with Windows 10’s ‘flat design’, notification fixes and taskbar visualizations. Slack’s version 1.2 upgrade is available now, and the specific changelog is as follows:
Slack 1.2 (To the World)

  • If you’re using Windows 10, a new notification experience awaits you. Notifications show up in the Action Center, and clicking them will open the app and teleport you to the right channel.
  • See your mentions in the tray! Blue for unread messages, red for mentions. It’s color-coded productivity harmony.
  • Control when the app window and taskbar icon flash using a new preference
  • Perturbed by the glare? Take a deep breath, and choose Never.
  • Missing notifications? Kick it up a notch, and check Always.
  • Doing admirably? Keep it in the middle, juuust right.
  • The Slack icon has been updated for Windows 10.
  • Fixed: A bug causing the app icon to revert to a blank piece of paper. We were going for the minimalist look.
  • Fixed: The Launch app on login preference was unchecked, even if you had checked it sometime in the past. This space-time paradox has been resolved.
  • Fixed: Download filenames are more accurate than ever and support extended Unicode.
  • Fixed: Several bugs around notifications and other things were targeted and destroyed

As the Slack App hasn’t gone full Windows 10 Universal app yet, the update cannot be searched in the Windows Store. Slack users are urged to check for updates in their settings menus. New users of Slack can test out the app by visiting the Slackhq.com website. Slack is a relatively new business, and it’s encouraging that Windows remains a target platform for the company.
