While Windows 8.1 continues to grow in market share, it hasn't grown as fast as it was intended to. The folks over at Statista have created a new chart visualizing and comparing the market share growth of both Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 7.
According to new data from NetApplications, Windows 8 now holds a market share of 6.63%, while Windows 8.1 holds a share of 3.95%. Compared to the previous month, Windows 8 went down by 0.02% in share, while Windows 8.1 went up from 3.50% to 3.95%. Both Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 have a combined market share of 10.58%.
But, as Statista points out, Windows 8/8.1 has barely reached 10% share after fifteen months of being available. Comparatively, Windows 7 reached 10% share after only six months. Unfortunately, we are beginning to see a slight increase in market share, rather than a steady climb.
Microsoft needs to pull out all the stops in order to boost the market share of Windows 8/8.1. The company is set to roll out the first update to Windows 8.1 sometime between March and April of this year, perhaps that might change things a bit.
