Surface Pro 2 cumulative firmware and driver pack available for downloadBy Alan Buckingham on Friday, Oct 25th, 2013 at 06:01AM
It has been only three days since Microsoft put the Surface Pro 2 on shelves in multiple markets, and only a week since the software giant rolled out the Windows 8.1 operating system. But like all things Microsoft, there is always an update available or right around the corner. The new tablet proves to be no exception and buyers likely have already been greeted with a prompt for this.
However, if you failed to receive the update, Microsoft has now made it available for direct download. The 158 MB ZIP file contains both firmware and driver updates for the Windows 8.1 device. This includes Intel, Marvell, Realtek and Microsoft folders that contain various drivers for the Surface Pro 2.
Microsoft officially describes the package as "Cumulative firmware and drivers for the Surface Pro 2. This firmware and driver package contains drivers for all of the components in the Surface Pro 2 device, as well as updates to the system firmware that have been released via Windows Update. These drivers and firmware are compatible with Windows 8.1 Pro and Windows 8.1 Enterprise. These drivers and firmware are not compatible with Windows 8.0 or Surface RT".
That last part bares highlighting, as those on the Surface RT -- what is now the first-generation product -- should not pursue this update. If you have purchased the new model, which begins at $899 for a 64 GB model with no touch or type cover, then you likely have received this update automatically. If you haven't then you can follow the aforementioned download link to get your device up to speed.
