If you were hoping for a firmware update this month for your Surface RT or Surface Pro, don’t hold your breath! Typically, Microsoft rolls out firmware updates for these two devices on the same day as Patch Tuesday, when the company rolls out security fixes for various products and operating systems. Well, not today.
“No product updates were released for Surface Pro in September. No product updates were released for Surface RT in September,” the Surface RT and Pro update history pages indicate. If you were checking Windows Update repeatedly hoping for a firmware update to appear, don’t waste your time! Hopefully Microsoft will roll out a firmware update next month.
There are still plenty of issues that Surface RT and Surface Pro owners are complaining about, as evident in the official Microsoft Support forum. September 2013 marks the first time both the Surface RT and Surface Pro did not receive a firmware update.
Microsoft recently issued a press invite for September 23rd, in which the company is expected to unveil the new Surface 2.0 line of tablets. The Surface 2.0 set of devices will feature a Power Cover keyboard, new kickstand, and improved battery life. The Surface 2.0 will be the sequel to the Surface RT, while the Surface Pro 2.0 will be the sequel to the Surface Pro. The Surface Pro 2.0 is expected to feature Intel’s Haswell processor for improved performance and battery life.
