Inspiring others to read has been the greatest task of educators around the world for centuries now. Even in the modern age, with a world of instantaneous communications available at the fingertips, this is no easy task.

Enter World Read Aloud Day (WRAD), an event held annually in March, which helps to bring together teachers, pupils and communities from around the globe. This year, Skype had an essentially part, through both the Skype inspires literacy campaign and by facilitating communications through Skype Group Video Calling.

This year’s event was hailed as something of a success, seeing participation across every inhabited continent, from places as far afield as Siberia and the Altiplano. Millions were impacted, paving the way for even greater success in 2015, breaking down barriers and allowing the world to come a little closer.
