The top Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8 apps as of March 30th

It’s Sunday, March 30th, and its time to take a look at the top (or best) Windows Phone and Windows 8.1 apps available right now in the respective app stores. Let’s see which of your favorite apps are at the top of the lists this week!

Currently, the Windows Store has 152,301 apps available worldwide. The week prior, there were 150,581 apps available. The top-five free apps available in the United States are Facebook, Skype, Asphalt 8 Airborne, Google Search, and VLC for Windows 8. The top-five paid apps are Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, House of 1000 Doors Collectors Edition, Halo Spartan Assault, Wheel of Fortune, and SiriusXM Player for Windows.

The Windows Phone Store, on the other hand, has over 245,000 apps available. Microsoft has yet to reveal an updated count for the Windows Phone Store, but that might change during the Build 2014 Developer Conference set to take place in just a few days. The top-five free apps available in the United States are Nokia Creative Studio, Office Lens, Facebook Messenger, HERE Maps, and Nokia Cinemagraph. The top-five paid apps are toib, MovieBox, Flashlight+, Lock Screen, and Photo Lock Pro.

Let’s take a look at some of the new apps that have made it to the top of the list this week, in both the Windows Store and Windows Phone Store.

House of 1000 Doors Collectors Edition is a Windows Store app that runs for $7.99 and offers one heck of an adventure. If you enjoy horror-based and challenging games, then you must check out House of 1000 Doors. The game features 70 locations, 20 mini-games, 12 CGI cutscenes, 4 plot lines, and much more in this entertaining game where you must solve a big mystery.

SiriusXM Player for Windows is an app that runs for $1.49 and is on the top-five paid apps list this week. SiriusXM Player for Windows. This application will allow you to start SiriusXM player in your default browser. It will also show you latest SiriusXM tweets,” the app description reads. Unfortunately, this unofficial app simply offers tweets and a link to the Sirius website. It really isn’t a quality app and definitely not worth the price. 

However, it seems that the app is quite popular, especially with over 65 reviews and an average rating of 4.5 stars. If you feel its worth the price, then by all means go for it, otherwise, don’t waste your money.

Toib is a simple YouTube app for Windows Phone 8 that offers a modern and clean interface and runs for $0.99 in the Windows Phone Store. This beautiful app allows you to log into your YouTube account so you can see your subscriptions and playlists, along with the ability to browse and search for YouTube videos. There is also a Live Tile that showcases the different channels you like, along with HD playback support. This app was recently made available to the Windows Phone Store.

MovieBox is a free app for Windows Phone 8 that offers information on a movie. The app allows you to search for movies, get details on that movie, and even watch a trailer for that movie. The app is beautifully designed and worth checking out.
