Viber for Windows Phone gains support for landline calls via Viber Out

Towards the end of last year, Viber Out was launched for Viber customers, making it possible to use the service to make calls outside of the Viber network -- so just like Skype, it became possible to make calls to landline and mobile numbers. Unlike Viber-to-Viber calls, making contact Viber-to-landline requires users to buy credit -- again, much like Skype -- althouhg the app itself remains free.

Call rates vary between countries, but there idea is that rates are going to be lower than using a mobile's regular calling tariff. This will be particularly attractive to anyone who makes a lot of international calls, as there is great potential for saving money.

The addition of support for Viber Out is the big news in this release, but here's the full changelog:

  • Viber Out: call non-Viber mobile and landline numbers at low rates
  • Send video messages
  • Send multiple photos at the same time
  • Hands-free Bluetooth support: seamlessly transfer calls to Bluetooth

The ability to send video message is one that is likely to go down well with users, as is multiple photo sending. This latest update brings the Windows Phone version of Viber in line with the Android and iOS apps.
