VS 2012 update 2

Microsoft has made available the third update to Visual Studio 2012, and it is available as a Release Candidate for immediate download. Microsoft has been issuing updates for Visual Studio 2012 in a frequent basis thanks to user feedback and suggestions.

“The Visual Studio Updates are a new mechanism we are using to provide ongoing value throughout the year to our Visual Studio and Team Foundation Server customers. These updates will provide features to support the latest software trends in the market, and also offer an easy way to deploy bug fixes,” Microsoft explained in an official blog post.

Update 3 addresses about 20 issues and requests from developers who use Visual Studio 2012. Not all the features made it to the update though, because Microsoft is already working on the next version of Visual Studio. However, Microsoft did address two frequently requested features for Visual Studio 2012.

This update now allows continuous integration for Team Projects using Git and the ability for developers to select a specific branch in the repo. There is also a new source settings dialog in the build definition wizard that allows you to do this.

Update 3 will also preserve build strings on upgrades. “Another often heard request was for the Team Foundation Server 2012 upgrade wizard to pick up the build settings from the previous install while loading the configuration database. In Update 3 we now have this functionality!” Microsoft added.

Hit the download link below to snag the update. It is a Release Candidate so expect the final version of this update to hit soon.
