Microsoft has dropped a new Windows 10 Redstone Insider Preview build today, 14291, that finally has support for Edge extensions! We recently learned that there will be three extensions for Insiders to test, Microsoft Translate, Mouse Gestures and Reddit Enhancements. Today’s new build has only just started rolling out for Insiders in the fast ring, so if you can’t see it yet give it some time as the update is still rolling out.

Here’s what Microsoft has to say about extensions at this point:

In keeping with our commitment to an interoperable web, we’re participating in the W3C Browser Extension Community Group’s efforts to define standardized extension APIs based on familiar web technologies. Today, we’re previewing our first step towards that goal.

This release supports a selection of preview extensions that have been validated by our team to work with the current set of supported APIs. Some planned APIs are not yet supported, but will be coming in future previews. We’ll share additional examples of extensions with future releases.

Today, the process of installing an extension is a bit more cumbersome than it will be when extensions make their way to the Windows Store at some point in the future.

Windows 10 build 14291 includes three extensions, with additional extensions set to arrive later this year.

The Windows Insider build will include three preview extensions: Microsoft Translator, an extension that automatically translates pages in over 50 different languages, a Mouse Gestures extension, and an early preview version of the popular Reddit Enhancement Suite (RES).  Later this year customers will find popular extensions from partners like AdBlock, Adblock Plus, Amazon, LastPass, Evernote and more.

As always, Microsoft wants you to provide your feedback on Windows 10, and Edge extensions are no different. Look forward to even more information at Build 2016 coming up in a few weeks, and at the Microsoft Edge Web Summit in April.

Since this build is mostly about Edge extensions, here’s where you can go to download them.
