Windows 10

As per usual, it’s been a very hectic week here at WinBeta. Windows 10 is constantly giving us the run around with news and features, meaning we never get a days rest. This week, we had the releasing of a brand new build, which was 19 builds newer than the previous one. Build 9879 included a number of interface tweaks, a new Insider Hub and more.

Within this new build, it was revealed that the beginnings of what appears to be a new Start Screen / Continuum mode was enable-able, meaning we got our first taste of what Microsoft is planning with the touch-side of Windows 10. Considering how buggy the experience is, we imagine Microsoft still has lots of work to do.

It was also revealed this week that Microsoft is willing to release ISO’s of the new build. Those who like to clean install their copy of Windows will know that build 9860 didn’t come with any ISO’s. Microsoft heard your outrage, and this time released ISO’s alongside the most recent build.

Furthermore, Microsoft also revealed that build 9879 would be the last build released to Windows Insider this year. Microsoft has more to share in early 2015, and the company will continue compiling and sharing builds to partners, just not Windows Insiders.

OneDrive saw some new changes in the most recent build, and many aren’t happy with what Microsoft is doing with OneDrive on Windows 10. Many features such as smart files and more are missing, and by the looks of it said features won’t be making a return.

The new build also saw more references to Cortana in PC Settings. Slowly but surely, more Cortana settings and references are making an appearance in Windows 10. Only a few more months now until we finally get to play with Cortana on our desktops and tablets.

And with probably the most interesting news of the week, the official Microsoft Lumia Twitter account confirmed that all Lumia’s running Windows Phone 8 will get an update to Windows 10 when it launches. That’s excellent news for everyone who is running on the latest Lumia devices, and great for those who purchased the first lot of Windows Phone 8 Lumias.
