As we approach the general availability of Windows 8.1 on October 17th for Windows 8 users, we're going to go over some tips and tricks for the operating system update until the day its released. In today's tips and tricks feature, we will talk about using your desktop background on the Start Screen.
Windows 8.1 brings forth many new features and improvements to Windows 8, and one of those features is the ability to use your desktop background as your Start Screen background. As you can see from the screenshot above, this feature is awesome and allows you to further personalize your Start Screen. This feature also bridges the gap between the desktop and the Start Screen, making you feel more at home when using the Start Screen.
In order to use this feature in Windows 8.1, simply right click on the taskbar, select Properties, select the Navigation tab, and simply check mark "show my desktop background on Start." Viola, you now have your desktop background showing on the Start Screen.
To take things a step further, we recommend downloading the Bing Desktop application, which is free. This software allows you to automatically change your desktop background to the latest Bing.com homepage image. These images are in high resolution, so so you will see a nice new desktop background along with the same image on your Start Screen every day!
