Windows 9 RTM may be ready in October 2014

It seems as though Windows 9 could be even closer than we thought. It’s likely that we’ll find out more about what to expect from the upcoming version of the operating system at BUILD in April, although it’s not yet clear whether we’ll see any kind of preview at this early stage. If WZor is right, however, it is possible that RTM code could be ready as early as October this year.

As Neowin points out, WZOR, who is the renowned source of Microsoft leaks, recently tweeted that the RTM sign off may be 21 October 2014. The date is completely unverified, and it would mean that Microsoft would have to work very quickly if it is indeed true.

If the company is able to pull it off — rewriting Windows and producing a completely new version in nine months — it will be an impressive feat. It also seems to be at odds with the previous suggestion that Windows 9 will be made available in April 2015. If the code is complete in October, how likely is it that Microsoft would sit on it for six months?

Of course, there is a chance that this date is entirely correct. Microsoft has a lot of work to do to regain customer love after Window 8 and Windows 8.1, and it would not be at all surprising if the company poured everything it had into development with a view to fast-tracking the release.
