Microsoft’s Windows Azure service suffered a partial global outage yesterday (October 30th). According to the Azure status page, Microsoft warned of Compute problems in every single region covered by the service.
This meant that users in West US, West Europe, Southeast Asia, South Central US, North Europe, North Central US, East Asia and East US all experienced issues. Full service was only restored at 10:45am UTC, October 31st, and was announced on the Azure dashboard with the following notice:
“Compute Service Management functionality has been restored in all regions. Microsoft Support is working to remediate Cloud Services that have been affected by this issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused our customers.”
At time of writing, there is still an ongoing issue with the FTP service which is suffering a partial outage around the world. Again, every region is affected by the issue and a note on the dashboard reads:
“We apologize for any inconvenience this causes customers using FTP to publish content to Web Sites. Web Site customers are advised to use Web Deploy or Git which are fully functional. For details visit Azure.com and search for “Websites with Webmatrix” or “Publishing with Git”. Engineering is fully focused on mitigation options. We will provide an update by 8pm UTC.”
