Windows launches Community Showcase for themes, brings back dynamic versions

When I mentioned dynamic themes in Windows my colleague Mark Wilson responded with “who uses them?” Well, actually I do, or specifically, one of them. The Bing desktop app allows you to make the daily image from the search service your desktop wallpaper, and it updates each and every day with a new, beautiful image.

Now the company is reintroducing these dynamic themes, which work via RSS. “I am happy to announce the launch of a new series of themes, in which we’ll bring you all the best images from the RSS themes, plus lots of new, great photography”, says Microsoft’s Jennifer Shepherd.

These will not be updated daily, as the Bing one does, but periodically new wallpapers will be added that will arrive on your desktop via RSS. New releases include Aqua, Fauna, Everyday Art and more. These all come from photographers that Microsoft selected during its open call. They fall into a new category called “Community Showcase”, which allows them to show off their work. While some are professionals, others are hobbyists.

You can check out all of the new additions by following the link below. Perhaps you’ll find something new for your desktop and add a bit of fun and color to your day.
