Windows Phone 8.1 reportedly running on almost 51 percent of devices, some unreleased Windows Phone spotted

AdDuplex has released their latest figures for the month of November, revealing some key information about the performance of the Windows Phone operating system and devices in several regions across the globe. Starting with one of the most important aspects, the operating system is now running on 50.8 percent of devices out in the wild — that number has increased slightly from 46.7 percent last month, but even a small change matters.

As far as the method of data collection is concerned, the folks at AdDuplex said:

“This report is based on data collected from 5,005 Windows Phone apps running AdDuplex SDK v2. The raw data analyzed was collected over the day of November 24th, 2014 (UTC time) unless otherwise stated. We have made every attempt to consolidate different reported phone model names under their canonical retail model names, but it is possible that some of the rare model name variations we not accounted for.”

The Lumia 530 continues to reign supreme as the most popular Windows Phone handset with a market share of 26.3 percent, slightly falling from 26.9 percent. On the other hand, the Lumia 630 continues to follow the upward trend, rising from 6.4 percent in October to 7.1 percent in November. As always, Nokia (whose devices division is now a part of Microsoft) continues to be the biggest Windows Phone manufacturer, but the “Others” section has seen a slight increase compared to last month.

As far as the United States is concerned, Lumia 521 and 520 sales continue to be the top two Windows Phones with 22 and 12 percent share respectively. The LTE-enabled Lumia 635 is gaining popularity, rising by 3 percent compared to last month. The Lumia 630 is also residing on the third spot, running on 11.4 percent of devices in the US. AT&T and T-Mobile continue to be the top carriers with Windows Phone devices in the US, and are running on 29.7 and 19.3 per cent of Windows Phones sold. However, they have lost some market share to Verizon and Cricket.

Surprisingly, there are a few new Windows Phone devices spotted in the latest report of AdDuplex, most of which come from Microsoft. AdDuplex’s founder also posted a teaser about them on Twitter, but with the latest report, we’ve got more information about what we can expected from them.

First up is an entry-level device with similar model numbers (RM-1069, RM-1070, RM-1071); it features a 4-inch 480 by 800 resolution, and has been mostly spotted on Asian shores. Second in the list is a 5-inch device with RM-1072 and RM-1075 model numbers, and a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels, mostly seen in Finland.

Last one in the list is the most interesting one, a 5.7-inch phablet which is spotted in multiple regions — Finland, AT&T in the US and some Asian countries. The device represents several model numbers (RM-1062, RM-1063, RM-1064 and RM-1065), but don’t expect it to be a flagship device. The folks at AdDuplex mention that the device rocks a 720p resolution, so it could be the successor of the mid-range Lumia 1320.

It would be interesting to see the changes Microsoft will make in the phablet space, but a flagship phablet (like the Lumia 1520) would have been much better, don’t you think?
