Windows Phone 8.1 is set to bring forth many new features and one of these new features is the inclusion of a Swype-like keyboard. While Microsoft has yet to official confirm the addition of a Swype-like keyboard for the operating system, we can now see it in action thanks to a new video.
The functionality is similar to the Swype keyboard on Android, in that you can swipe your fingers across letters and the system will then predict words. The keyboard also supports emoticon prediction. As you will see in the video, after typing the word “happy,” you will be shown an emoticon suggestion. This makes it easier to get emoticons in your messages without having to switch to the Emoticon view.
After adding an emoticon, the keyboard will automatically switch you back to letters. This is optional and can be enabled or disabled in the keyboard settings. Another feature that the keyboard will have is the ability to capitalize the first letter of a sentence. It’s not a ground breaking feature but it sure is convenient.
Windows Phone 8.1 is expected to roll out around the time of the BUILD Developer Conference, which takes place April 2nd to April 4th. We’ve embedded the video below for your viewing pleasure. Take a look and let us know if you plan on using the Swype-like keyboard!
