Because tech-savvy people like to eat well too, here is an app that might have you dining in, instead of dining out. This app is also free and available in the Windows Store for both Windows 8 and Windows RT.
The Everyday Food app offers video and non-video recipes, and those “how to” videos that clarify subjects that have baffled tech-savvy chef wannabes for years. You know; things like how to peel an onion, how to measure flour, and how to crimp a pie crust.
The app is set up in the typical Windows 8 landscape layout, and is very simple to navigate. The pictures are crisp, their colors are vibrant, and the videos are professionally presented. There are four sections from which to choose: Daily; Featured; Watch & Learn; and Favorites.
The Daily section offers one video recipe for each day of the week. The daily recipes are not complete meals, and can feature a snack, an appetizer, a salad, an entrée, or a desert.
The Featured section offers video and non-video recipes, and categorizes them into types, meats; seafood; poultry; soups and stews; and so on.
Then there is the Watch & Learn section. There, the tech-savvy aspiring chef, can watch video lessons that answer those all-important “how to” questions that we have all wondered about, from time to time.
The Favorites section allows the user to save their favorite recipes in one place. To save into favorites, when viewing a recipe, one simply swipes up from the bottom of the screen or right clicks to bring up the app bar, to touch or click on the star. I highly recommend using this feature of the app if you find a recipe that you like. I learned the hard way after finding a recipe called “Salmon with Escarole and Lemon” that recipes are periodically rotated out of the app. Fortunately, I was able to find it again on the app’s website: www.marthastewart.com/everydayfood.
