During Microsoft’s buying spree in 2015, the company picked up Wunderlist, one of the more popular and full-featured task management apps around, and Accompli, the email app that has slowly been rolling into Microsoft’s Outlook app on various platforms. Now, the teams are experiencing one of the more common results of such acquisitions as Wunderlist’s Chief Designer, Ben Lehnert, is leaving to join the Outlook team as its Director of Product Design.

Lehnert’s blog post on the impending transition is a great read full of interesting history and some important life lessons. For Microsoft users, here are the pertinent bits:

In August, I’ll be joining the Outlook team to work on the next generation email and calendar service. I’ll be leading the product design teams for Outlook on iOS, Android and the Mac, and spend my time in New York, San Francisco and Redmond. The remarkable worldwide footprint and relevance of Outlook combined with a strong new focus on delivering excellent experiences across all platforms is going to be a big and exciting challenge. The team has done an amazing job so far, and I can’t wait to share the things we are working on.

Wunderlist and Accompli were both great acquisitions that have added real value to Microsoft’s line of productivity solutions. We’re looking forward to seeing what Lehnert brings to the design table for the Outlook team, and let us know what you think of both of these products in the comments.
