Earlier today we reported that some Xbox users were seeing the Borderlands Collection as a free download in the Xbox Store. A little over an hour later, Microsoft has come out and has officially announced that Xbox Live is hosting a free Multiplayer All-Access Event, with Borderlands Collections as a free download this weekend.

All Xbox Live members, regardless of Gold status, are invited to join and play online during the free multiplayer event. Microsoft highlights that this is, “a great opportunity for players across both consoles to experience one of the most-popular benefits of Xbox Live Gold membership.”

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, nonetheless,  is the essential Borderlands compilation and includes the definitive versions of both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, built specifically for next-gen consoles.  It is normally priced at $24.00, and can be downloaded by clicking here.
