Xbox Music for Windows Phone adds Cortana integration in its new update

The long coming update to Xbox Music app has finally arrived. While the changelog suggests it’s all about performance improvements, our longtime friend Paul Thurrott has discovered Cortana integration too, which obviously is more enticing. I wonder why the Xbox Music team would leave this headline feature unsaid?

Officially, as per the changelog, bumping up the version number to 2.5.2842.0, the update brings performance improvements and bug fixes. But as Paul notes, that’s not all you should expect in this update.

The Cortana integration to the app is now more deep and complete. It now supports playing playlists by name. The other interesting addition is background initial sync of local and cloud content. Along the stability fixes, the black screen error many users were coming across has been resolved as well. The user interface looks better now, with improved animation and transitions between UI views. Another addition is the improved messaging for encountered errors, such as unplayable content in collections.
