One of, if not the biggest announcement at Microsoft’s E3 2015 keynote was Xbox One backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 games. The announcement was met with wild applause from the audience as it was a feature that many hoped to see when the next-generation console was first announced.
Now the feature is coming later this year and owners who have upgraded from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One (or those that have held on to their 360 because of the investment they made in 360 games) will have something new to brag about to Playstation owners.
However, not all 360 games will be backwards compatible immediately. Microsoft will have over 100 games added to the ‘Back Compat’ catalog by fall, and according to the company, hundreds more will be added to the list every month. Microsoft has just unveiled the first 21 games to officially support backwards compatibility, check out the list below.
Those enrolled in the Xbox Preview program will get to try out the backwards compatibility feature as a beta today, with broad availability in the fall. If you have a digital version of any of the games in Back Compat list, it will automatically show up in the “Ready to Install” section on your Xbox One, so you can get playing now. On the other hand, if you have a disc version of the games, you will need to insert the disk first, the console will then download the game into its HDD, after which you will be able to start playing. The disk will need to remain in the drive to play though.
