Xbox One Preview update invites are rolling out for some

If you’re a member of the Xbox One preview program, get ready to receive an invite to install the next Xbox One preview build in the coming days. While we reported yesterday that Microsoft’s Mike Ybarra teased on Twitter that the next preview build would be released “soon”, today our colleagues at Windows Central have learned that invites to try the “Latest Xbox One Experience” are currently rolling out to the Xbox messaging inboxes of select members of the Xbox preview program.

According to a tweet from Xbox Preview Program Manager Emily Hanson today, the Xbox Team will be first sending invites to members of the preview program who have earned the most points by submitting feedback following the release of the previous build:

To be clear, Microsoft has not released this preview build yet, but those of you who already received an invite can apply to get it as soon as it’s live. To do it, go to your apps on the Xbox One dashboard, select the Xbox Preview dashboard, then go to “registration” and choose “Preview Latest Xbox Experience”. It’s not clear yet if Microsoft will allow every members of the Xbox One Preview program to enroll in the coming days.

Mike Ybarra explained in another tweet yesterday that “not all features will be in the first build we send out”, meaning this upcoming preview build won’t be the full Xbox One Anniversary Update that Microsoft is expected to release in the summer. Microsoft previously revealed during its Build 2016 developer conference that this Anniversary Update would bring Cortana, Universal Windows 10 apps as well as “key gaming features” to its gaming console. Less than a year after the Xbox One operating system was overhauled with the release of the New Xbox One Experience in November 2015, Microsoft is nearly ready to make its gaming console a full member of the Windows 10 ecosystem.
