Asus unveils new Zenbook 3, Surface-like Transformers, and a robot at Computex

Earlier today Asus held its “Zenvolution” press event at Computex 2016 where it unveiled a series of new and refreshed products, including a new Zenfone, the hybrid tablet Transformer 3 Pro, and ultra thin and portable ZenBook 3, and even a new robot companion to follow you around the home.

Computex is one of the largest computer and technology trade shows in the world, and taking place in Taipei, the Taiwanese manufacturer pulled out all the stops to introduce an impressive lineup of devices on its home turf. Here are the latest Windows 10 devices announced today by Asus.

Asus announced an incredibly slim laptop that packs quite a punch with the ASUS ZenBook 3. This new Windows 10 laptop is thin, light, and with small bezels, but still comes with an Intel Core i7 processor and plenty of memory and storage. It also has a fingerprint reader to take advantage of logging in with Windows Hello.

  • 11.9mm chassis weighing 910g
  • Intel Core i7 processor
  • 16 GB of 2133 MHz RAM
  • Up to 1TB PCEi Gen 3 SSD storage
  • 12.5″ inch display with bezels 18% thinner than the MacBook
  • Built-in fingerprint reader for logging in with Windows Hello
  • 9 hours of battery life and the ability to charge up to 60% in 49 minutes

The ASUS ZenBook 3 will be available starting this summer with prices beginning at $999.

ASUS Transformer 3 Pro

ASUS also announced new 2-in-1 hybrid tablet laptops starting with the new ASUS Transformer 3 Pro. This tablet-laptop hybrid is aimed directly at the Microsoft Surface Pro 4, and it is a thin and powerful competitor. The Transformer 3 Pro has the familiar kickstand and detachable keyboard, and it also comes with an infrared camera for biometric login using Windows Hello. It is slightly thinner than the Surface Pro 4 (.32″ versus .33″) but slightly heavier (1.76 lbs versus 1.73 lbs). Here are some of the specs announced by Asus:

  • Powered by Windows 10
  • The IR camera allows for secure login using Windows Hello
  • Up to Intel Core i7 Processor, 16 GB memory, 1TB PCIe SSD, and Thunderbolt 3
  • Very thin (.32 inches – just tablet) and light (1.76 lbs)
  • Keyboard and Active Pen included

The Transformer 3 Pro will also be launching sometime this summer and also starts at $999.

ASUS also announced the Transformer 3. Lighter and thinner than the Pro variant, this ASUS hybrid is about the dimensions of a piece of A4 paper. It is a full-powered Windows 10 PC running an Intel Core processor, with 8 GB of RAM and up to 512GB of SSD Storage. It also comes with a 12.6″ display with 2880×1920 resolution and has a built-in fingerprint reader for logging in through Windows Hello. It also can work with a full range of ASUS accessories such as a universal dock, the ROG XG Station 2 for increasing gaming performance, and the ASUS pen.

Some of the Transformer 3’s key specifications are:

  • Powered by Windows 10
  • A built-in fingerprint reader allows for secure login with Windows Hello
  • Active Pen (optional)
  • Intel 7th Generation Core Processor
  • Optional origami keyboard
  • Extremely light and thin – only 1.54 pounds, with a tablet that’s only 0.27 inches wide

The Transformer 3 will be available this summer starting at a price of $799.

Lastly, ASUS also introduced an even smaller and lighter Transformer hybrid tablet, the Transformer Mini. This Windows 10 2-in-1 comes with a 10.1″ display and has a battery that can last up to 11 hours. It also comes with a fingerprint reader for logging in with Windows Hello and keyboard included.

Some fo the key specifications for the Transformer Mini are:

  • Powered by Windows 10
  • A built-in fingerprint reader allows for secure login with Windows Hello
  • Keyboard included
  • Aluminum chassis
  • Grey and white color options
  • USB Type-C ports

The Transformer Mini will also be available sometime this summer but pricing was not available.

It was an impressive lineup announced by ASUS that shows OEMS are continuing to produce more mobile and powerful Windows 10 devices. The standard of hybrid 2-in-1 tablets that Microsoft established with Surface is also continuing to be followed with even more innovative variants to give consumers plenty of options.
