Windows 10 Insider build 14942 brought some nice new features to Windows Insiders on the Fast Ring. From an enhanced Photos app to the ability to hide the app list for a cleaner Start menu, build 14942 is more feature-packed than other recent builds post-Anniversary Update.

Microsoft Senior Program Manager Brandon LeBlanc took to Twitter today to let us know that a new issue has been identified with build 14942:

As LeBlanc indicates, the build 14942 blog post includes a description of the issue, along with a rather technical workaround:

  • ADDED 10/10: Due to a recent platform change, Microsoft Edge may crash after launch, or when you type in address bar or try to open a new tab. To get Microsoft Edge back working again, you can run the following via PowerShell (Note – this may clear your cookies and history as a result of the workaround):
    1
    Get-ChildItem 'HKCU:\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppContainer\Storage\microsoft.microsoftedge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\Children' | foreach{Remove-Item $_.pspath -Recurse}

If you’ve been experiencing this issue in Windows 10 Insider build 14942, then hopefully this workaround will help you out. Let us know in the comments if you’ve seen any other issues in this build.
