Microsoft has released an update to its Office Lens app that makes it Universal. The app is now the same across Windows 10 PCs and Mobile.

Office Lens is an app that helps make documents and whiteboards readable when taking pictures of them, as well as making it easier to save business cards. It works by trimming and enhancing the viewport of the camera as you take the picture. It then uploads and saves the taken images to OneNote, so that they can be viewed across any device.

The update doesn’t bring any major new features apart from the visual redesign and stability improvements. Current features of the app include:

  • With Whiteboard mode, Office Lens trims and cleans up glare and shadows
  • With Document mode, Office Lens trims and colors images perfectly
  • Pictures are saved to your camera roll and also directly into OneNote, so you can see the images across all your devices
  • Choose to convert images to PDF (.pdf), Word (.docx), or PowerPoint (.pptx) files that are automatically saved to OneDrive

If the app is installed on a Windows 10 Mobile device, an update will be available in the Windows Store which takes it to the Universal upgrade. If you’re on PC, you can download the app from the Windows Store.

Please keep in mind that this update is only just beginning to rollout and for some users it may appear as not being available or will only show the old version of the app. In this case, it is best to try and obtain the app a little later when it has rolled out in your region.
