It’s now time to take a look at the top, best, and most popular Windows 8 and Windows RT apps available in the Windows Store. We will go over some stats for the Windows Store, including the top five paid apps and top five free apps. This is yet another post in our weekly feature called “Windows Store Sunday” where we highlight what’s going on with the Windows Store.

As of September 22nd, there are 117,336 in the Windows Store, an increase of 862 apps in just one week. Compared to last week, the top-five free apps has seen some minor shuffling around. Skype retains the lead as the top free app, while we see a new app called “Mortar Melon Classic” make its appearance in the list. Microsoft’s own Network Speed Test rounds out the top five. In the top-five paid list, Asphalt 7 Heat has been dropped to second place as Where’s My Mickey takes the lead. Angry Birds Star Wars continues to be popular, along with Fruit Ninja. Bejeweled LIVE returns to the list rounding out the top five. Here are the top five paid apps currently in the Windows Store:

With Windows 8.1, which is set to roll out as a free update for Windows 8 users on October 17th, features the Bing apps suite pre-installed. In an official blog post this week, Microsoft highlights these apps and welcomes two new apps into the suite. The two new apps, called Food & Drink and Health & Fitness are now included in the suite for Windows 8.1.

Also this week, Nokia rolled out an update to its Nokia Music app for Windows 8 and Windows RT and this update is simply a minor update. In fact, this update addresses an installation issue that some users were facing when trying to install the app.
