Amazon to retire Windows Phone app on August 15th

Arif Bacchus

Thanks to a tip from our reader Ivan (Thanks Ivan!) we can report that Amazon will officially retire their Windows Phone app on August 15th. This is just the latest set of Amazon app related news, and a bit later of a retirement period, as we recently reported back in June that the app would originally be retired on July 25th.

The announcement of the retirement of the app was made in an email, which reads,

Our records indicate that you have previously installed the Amazon App for Windows Phone from the Microsoft App Store. We will be retiring the app you currently have on your device, meaning its contents will no longer be updated. You will still have access to the app until 15 August, 2016. We encourage you to visit Amazon.co.uk on your mobile browser where you will have access to our newest shopping features and customer experience.

While this might be bad news for those of you who already use the app to order products from the online giant retailer, the mobile Amazon site can still be accessed through a mobile browser. We are, however, uncertain if a Windows 10 version of the app will be released, but Amazon has shown some interest, and recently released a extension for Microsoft Edge.
