Bing aims for the stars, predicts the 2015 Academy Award winners

Two weeks ago, Bing took a shot at predicting Grammy winners, in which it accurately predicted English singer/songwriter Sam Smith as a winner of several Grammy awards. This time around, the Bing prediction engine will be having a go at the Oscars, which takes place next week on February 22nd.

Bing predicts that Birdman will win Best Picture, Eddie Redmayne as Best Actor for his role in ‘The Theory of Everything’, Julianne Moore for Best Actress for her role in ‘Still Alice’, and Richard Linklater for Best Director for his coming-of-age film ‘Boyhood’.

Judging by the accuracy of the Bing prediction engine in the past with the FIFA World Cup, the SuperBowl, The Voice and others, there’s a good chance the engine will be correct again here. With the Oscar prediction, Bing now allows users to cast their votes too and challenge the engine. Users can also click on nominees and films on the Bing carousel to see aggregated information of them including their trailers and where to watch the movies online.

In a new post on the Bing Blog, Microsoft is also touting the search engines ability to search for movies using natural language. This can be very helpful for those of us that tend to forget movie titles more often than the actors that feature in them.

“If one Oscar nominee reminds you that Clint Eastwood directed a movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio, but can’t remember the film title, Bing’s conversational understanding engine can help. Search terms such as: ‘Movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio directed by Clint Eastwood’ or ‘tom cruise movie with unicorn’ and Bing will not only find it, but let you know where to watch that movie online.” – Microsoft
