comScore’s latest search market numbers are out — at least to some analysts — the stats will please Microsoft. Bing’s search share has reached a new high, whereas rival Yahoo’s performance has continued to trickle down. Though, bear in mind, this is traffic visiting each site — Bing does power the Yahoo search engine, so decreased traffic there is not entirely good news for the company.
Yahoo’s search market share has fell drastically to a new low. At 9.8%, this is the first time in years Yahoo hasn’t managed even 10% of search traffic. Whereas, at 19.2%, Bing has registered its all-time high score.
The other notable thing — which probably we all saw coming — was the decline in desktop search. Over the last few years, people’s reliance on mobile devices has evidently increased. Stats for the month of June are as follows, though do note that these numbers do not include mobile search.

- Yahoo: 9.8 percent

According to StatCounter, Bing has 5.56 percent of the US mobile search market, managing the third position after Yahoo’s 9.3 percent share. At 84.71 percent, Google continues its dominance. Microsoft would hope Windows Phone 8.1 rollout — which brings Cortana to all the Windows Phone 8 handsets — to help it improve the numbers. Also, the company seems to be planning to remove the ability to set Google as the default search engine on select handsets.
