Here's how you can run Android apps in Windows with DuOS-M without having to dual boot

There is one simple fact that we cannot overlook — why are some apps more expensive on Windows compared to their Android counterparts? How come many Android apps are not available on Windows, and those that are available, are more expensive on Windows?

To give you an example of what I am talking about, take a look at Angry Birds Space. It costs $3.49 for Windows, but is free for Android. Knights of the Old Republic is $9.99 on Steam (for Windows) and $4.99 on Android, for the same exact code.

AMI (American Megatrends), the same company that provides the BIOS for the majority of PCs worldwide, has released DuOS-M, a new concept that brings the functionality, depth, and “fun” of the Android experience to Microsoft’s Windows operating system. It can only run on Windows 7 or Windows 8 (Windows 8.1 as well), on either PC or tablet for fast switching between Android and Windows environments. You don’t even have worry about a painful installation experience or dual booting — all you have to do is download the software, install it, and run it.

DuOS-M offers a complete Android experience with the latest version of Android, complete with multi-touch and gestures, such as Pinch-to-Zoom, as well as support for cameras, audio/mic, accelerometer, gyrometer, compass, orientation, and a full featured software keyboard. In desktop mode, DuOS-M offers a full hardware keyboard support, adjustable screen orientation, Ethernet support, as well as simulated WiFi to provide network access for Android apps. Here are the key features:

  • Runs on native code: runs in the native x86-mode to provide peak performance, while ARM emulation is only performed on as-needed basis.
  • Instant switching: Android applications can even be pinned to Start menu for seamless experience.
  • 3D acceleration support: utilizes Windows OpenGL drivers for improved frame rates to support even the most graphics-intensive games.
  • Gamepad integration: supports many popular models including PS3 (Xbox 360 coming soon).
  • File Sharing: easily share pictures, videos and music between both OS modes.
  • Storage: supports SD card emulation and allows configuration of SD card size with an easy-to-use tool.
  • Run full-screen: transform Windows tablets into Android, or run in a window to access Windows and Android apps at the same time!

DuOS-M can run nearly all of the Android apps available in the Android app store. For all you app developers out there, this is a fantastic tool to develop and test your Android app within your Windows operating system. DuOS-M is also ARM v7 compatible, so it can run the most popular ARM apps as well. Check out the videos below showcasing DuOS-M in action.

Let’s face it — we live in a new age where cross platform is in. Just look at the new direction Microsoft is taking with several of its apps and services becoming available on rival platforms. DuOS-M allows you to enjoy your favorite Android app right on Windows, without having to worry about purchasing and owning an Android device.

AMI plans to unveil DuOS 5.0 at Mobile World Congress in March, complete with a set of new features, so stay tuned for that. We’ll also have a hands-on review of the software too. In the mean time, head over to the download link to snag the software free for 30 days — it normally runs for $9.99.
