Lenovo unveils the latest ThinkPad X1 Carbon, starts at a whopping ,249

The Consumers Electronics Show has finally taken off, and Lenovo has already announced their latest ThinkPad line up to kick things off. The company officially announced their latest ThinkPad X1 Carbon, which it calls “state-of-the-art”. The company also announced they have shipped over a hundred million units of the ThinkPad series to customers across the globe which is quite impressive.

“Since the original ThinkPad 700, ThinkPad engineers have continued to drive innovation by making each new ThinkPad better than the last. Reaching 100 million units sold proves they are succeeding,” said Yang Yuanqing, chairman and CEO, Lenovo. “When we acquired IBM’s PC business, we made a promise to not just protect the ThinkPad franchise, but to make it even better, even stronger.  Today, ThinkPad continues to be one of the most respected brands in the industry, fueling Lenovo’s rise to number 1 in the global PC industry.  Now, even as Lenovo expands into mobile devices, servers, and ecosystem and cloud computing, ThinkPad will remain at the core of our strategy and the heart of our business.  It is an honor to continue to bring this legendary brand to our customers, and I look forward to many more ThinkPad milestones to come.”

As for the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, it’s said to be the lightest 14-inch tablet weighing under 3lbs and boasts a resolution of 2560 by 1,440 pixels with a 10-point multitouch. The processing comes from the 5th Generation Intel Core I7 processors so it can run most of the performance intensive tasks you through at it.

The notebook features up to 8GB of RAM, up to 512GB of PCI-e SSD storage, Dolby Advanced Audio and runs Windows 8.1 as its operating system pre-installed. The company touts the notebook can provide a battery time of up to 11 hours depending on the usage, but these are just rough estimates if you ask us, the real world usage may vary.

As far as the availability is concerned, the machine will go on sale in January starting at $1,249, which is hefty, but you do get what you pay for.
