Microsoft has offered a bit more detail on how game licensing works on the new Xbox One entertainment console. For those curious, once you install a game onto your Xbox One, you no longer need the disc to play that game!

“After signing in and installing, you can play any of your games from any Xbox One because a digital copy of your game is stored on your console and in the cloud. So, for example, while you are logged in at your friend’s house, you can play your games,” Microsoft explains.

Microsoft also explains that gamers can purchase disc-based games at retailers or online via Xbox Live, on the day the game is released. Discs will be a faster means of installing a game. Family members and friends will have unlimited access to your games library allowing them to play your games on your console regardless if you are logged in or who they are!

You can also trade-in or resell your games. “Today, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit. We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games,” Microsoft adds.

Gamers can also give their disc-based games to their friends without being charged a fee as part of the transfer. “There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once,” Microsoft explains.

The Xbox One just gets better and better, doesn’t it?
