Microsoft offers 5 percent off on several Microsoft Store items, including the Xbox One

Earlier today, Microsoft slashed the price of the Xbox One by $50 as holiday promotion which will commence next week — on November 2nd in the US. If you’re ready to save you’re hard-earned cash, Microsoft is offering up to five percent off on most Microsoft Store items, but it requires a little bit of your time.

Here’s how it works: you can sign up for Microsoft’s text message alerts by signing up on the promotion page, and the company will then send you a coupon code which can get you 5 percent off at the Microsoft store — both online and in-store. If you cannot do this, there’s an easy way to do this as well; simply SMS ‘Play’ to 29502, and you’ll get the 5 percent discount code as well.

It mentions in the terms and conditions that the offer is valid for select products, but it seems it works for the Xbox One as well. This means from November 2nd, users could get a further 5 percent off on their Xbox One purchase, bring the price down to $332.50 (for the Kinect-less bundle) with a free game. Unfortunately, the discount doesn’t apply to the Surface Pro 3 and its accessories. The T&C mention, “Excludes gift cards, pre-ordered products, volume licensing, contract phones, Surface Pro 3 devices and Surface Pro 3 accessories.”

The promotion page also mentions that this offer doesn’t start until 12/16/2014, but it appears the promotion is still active. The folks at Neowin tested the five percent discount code on the Xbox One, and it worked. Furthermore, it’s for people residing in the US, so if you’re thinking about getting Microsoft’s gaming console, wait for a few more days as the 5 percent discount combined with the holiday Xbox One promotion is the cheapest deal you will find.
