Microsoft offers extra 20GB of SkyDrive storage to select users amidst OneDrive name change

We learned earlier today that Microsoft will be changing the SkyDrive name to OneDrive. Microsoft has also sent out emails to select SkyDrive users offering them 20GB of extra storage space as a gift. Microsoft is no stranger to these types of gifts, having recently sent out invitations for an extra 20GB of storage space if you are a Windows Phone user.

“Thank you for using SkyDrive. You’re one of our most valued SkyDrive users, and one of a select group to receive this gift of an extra 20GB for one year, free,” the email reads. Clearly stated in the email, this 20GB of storage space (called ‘Windows bonus’) will expire after a year.

Back in December of last year, Microsoft treated Windows Phone users with an extra 20GB of SkyDrive storage space for one year. Microsoft offered this gift to almost all Windows Phone users just in time for the holidays.

So what happens after the promotion expires? If you exceed your remaining storage space when the one year promotion expires, you’ll be able to view, share, and download files on your SkyDrive, but you won’t be able to upload files until you buy more storage space or free up space.

Check your emails to see if you received this offer. Let us know if you received it!
