Microsoft rolls out PC drivers for Xbox One controller in 32bit and 64bit flavors

Last year, in August, a Microsoft spokesman confirmed that the Xbox One controller will be compatible for PC users sometime in 2014. Microsoft has now fulfilled that promise by releasing PC drivers for the Xbox One controller.

Windows gamers can now use the controller to play games on their computer. Microsoft plans to release the drivers as part of a Windows update at some point in time, but for now, PC gamers can get an early access to test out the controller on Windows.

A couple of months back, a rumor spread that PC drivers weren’t coming to Xbox One controllers. “When the drivers become available, they will work with the existing controllers. There is no plan to do a new, separate controller that only works on Windows. It will be the same as it is on Xbox 360 – the Xbox One controller you have today will work,” Albert Penello, Microsoft director of product planning stated.

Microsoft may also ship a PC SKU of the Xbox One controller, similar to the Xbox 360. But Microsoft has yet to officially announce that. Any game that features support for the Xbox 360 controller is said to be compatible with the Xbox One controller with these new drivers.
