Microsoft sells 60 million Windows 8 licenses in just over two months since launchBy Ron on Tuesday, Jan 8th, 2013 at 01:11PM
During CES 2013, Microsoft's Chief Financial and Chief Marketing Officer for Windows, Tammi Reller, mentioned during the JP Morgan Tech Forum that Windows 8 has sold 60 million licenses since the operating system's launch on October 26th. The Windows Store has also surpassed the 100 million app download mark.
The 60 million licenses sold includes sales to OEMs for new PCs. "At the 11th Annual J.P. Morgan Tech Forum at CES 2013 today, Windows Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Financial Officer Tami Reller announced that Windows 8 has sold 60 million licenses to date. This continues to be in line with Windows 7 and represents the cumulative sales of Windows 8 including both upgrades and sales to OEMs for new devices," Microsoft stated in an official blog post.
Microsoft even mentioned that there are over 1,700 certified systems for Windows 8 and Windows RT to date. To put things into perspective, in just one month since its official launch, Windows 8 had sold over 40 million licenses and was already outpacing Windows 7 in terms of upgrades. This news comes just in time as many reports have been circulating the internet about Windows 8's lack of sales. Not only that, but Microsoft announcing that the Windows Store has surpassed the 100 million app download mark is great news for app developers too as it gives them hope that they are not creating apps for a platform that isn't succeeding.
