Microsoft no longer accepts Bitcoin for Windows 10 Store purchases

Windows Store Gift Cards

Back in December of 2014, we reported that Microsoft had begun accepting Bitcoin in the United States as a payment option for Windows, Windows Phone, and Xbox purchases. Now it seems that Microsoft has quietly discontinued support for Bitcoin, according to a page (first spotted by Softpedia) on Microsoft’s Windows 10 website.

With the title of the page “Microsoft Store doesn’t accept Bitcoin” and “Applies to Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile” on the page, Microsoft has made it obvious that Bitcoin will no longer be accepted as a payment method:

You can no longer redeem Bitcoin into your Microsoft account. Existing balances in your account will still be available for purchases from Microsoft Store, but can’t be refunded.

I wonder if it was due to a lack of popularity? Thankfully, existing balances will still be available to use but you won’t be able to be refunded. We’ve reached out to Microsoft for a statement and will update you once we receive new information.

Thanks for the tip, Jordan!
