Surface Pro 4 and Surface Laptop 2 battery drain

Microsoft’s Surface lineup isn’t done with battery problems.

Surface Laptop 2 and Surface Pro 4 are plagued by battery drain issues

After some battery drain problems affecting the Surface Pro 5 and 6 devices, now it seems that Surface Laptop 2 and Surface Pro 4 are plagued by the same bug.

Here’s how some affected users are describing the problem on Microsoft’s community forum:

Lately, after I shutdown (full shutdown, not sleep or hibernate) my fully charged Surface Laptop 2 at night, I turn it on in the morning and find that the battery has lost around 25% power overnight! What’s going on and how can I fix this?

I am having the same issue.  Was plugged in at the office @ 100%.  Drove home which was about 25 minutes and powered it up and was @ 75%.  Surface Laptop 2.  This started after the last firmware update.

The cause for this battery drain bug seems to be the latest firmware updates.

Microsoft might release a new update soon

Other users reached to Microsoft on Twitter. The tech giant responded to many, recommending troubleshooting steps and trying to fix the problem, with no success:

As we already mentioned, the Surface Pro 4 is also having battery drain issues. The cause isn’t sure yet, but it’s likely to be the latest cumulative updates:

Due to all these battery problems, we may see some Surface and Windows updates sooner rather than later, as Microsoft hinted in a tweet response:

Please continue to check for Surface and Windows Updates to make sure that your device has the most current firmware and software available.
