Back in 2014 Microsoft launched the Skype Qik Video Chat App for Android, iPhone, and Windows Phone. At the time the app was similar to SnapChat and allowed users to share video messages and save and send GIF responses. Since then, however, many users have already started doing the same using Skype’s existing services. As a result, today, Microsoft has announced that March 24th will be the last day that Skype Qik service will be available (first spotted by Mary Jo Foley).
The company describes the changes in a blog post:
“We’ve enabled video messaging in Skype and fun features such as filters, to make your messages even more personal. To send a video message in Skype today, simply look for the video message icon in the media bar… Due to these updates, the last day Skype Qik will be available for use will be March 24th, 2016. “
So, if you’re currently using this app, you should make sure to save any messages that you might want to keep. After the March 24th deadline, you will no longer be able to send or receive messages using the app.
