As MSN Messenger retires, Microsoft donates @Messenger Twitter handle to Facebook

As Microsoft’s iconic instant messaging service, MSN Messenger or more recently known as Windows Live Messenger, reaches its retirement, Microsoft has donated the @Messenger Twitter handle to Facebook. Microsoft began migrating Messenger users to Skype in January of 2013, before the service was retired in March of 2013. China still had MSN Messenger but that service will end October 31st.

In a short tweet earlier today, Microsoft mentions that since Messenger is now a part of Skype, the @Messenger Twitter handle will now be given to Facebook on September 30th. The iconic Microsoft instant messaging service will finally be laid to rest. Microsoft acquired Skype back in May of 2011 for $8.5 billion.
