Microsoft Research has brought us a new app for us to enjoy for those of us on a Windows Phone device. Microsoft Research has released an app called “Network Speed Test” which offers you detailed information on upload and download speeds. This app is sure to be a good alternative to the Speedtest.net app.
“Network Speed Test can provide you detailed information about the upload and download speeds of your internet connections. The App also maintains a history of the internet connections you’ve tested for easy comparison. When you test a network connection using the App, certain characteristics of your device and the network connection will be sent to Microsoft to help improve our understanding of network quality and availability,” the app description reads.
Microsoft Research recently brought us the BLINK camera app and now we get a network speed test app. This app is very simple to use and showcases upload and download speeds, latency, packet loss, and much more. This app also helps out Microsoft in a way.
By consenting, users who run the app can provide “certain characteristics of your device and the network connection” to Microsoft to help the software giant understand all-things network related, possibly to improve other Windows Phone features via the data that is collected.
