For many the Surface 3 represents the tablet/laptop combo many wanted from the start of the Surface line. The concept behind the Windows RT platform may have been confusing for some, but the idea of a lightweight workhorse tablet always remained the underlying promise of the Surface line. The Surface Pro attempted to deliver on that promise, but early comprises made it stumble on itself. After a couple of iterations and very vocal responses to the product line, Microsoft is finally starting to sculpt the tablet/laptop device their operating system and marketing teams promised a few years ago.
It’s nice that Microsoft has finally found its footing with the addition of the Surface Pro 3 and Surface 3 line of devices, but what happens to the early adopters that kept the idea afloat?
If you are among the early Surface crowd, you may be able to cash in on your early loyalty. Owners of a Surface RT and Surface 2 that are in good working conditions can now trade in their devices for up to $150.00 (US) off on a new Surface 3. The promotion of the Surface 3 trade-in is currently limited to the US. Owners looking to trade in will be offered an online code that can be used for the discount received for their older devices, in order to buy the new Surface 3.
Surface RT and Surface 2 owners can visit the dedicated trade-in the site to fill out a form. Once the form is filled out, owners will receive a promotional code reflecting the trade in the amount of their device. The code can then be applied to the online or in-store (if you presented it) purchase of a Surface 3. The trade in a part of the promotion last until May 31, 2015 and online redemption must be used by June 30, 2015.
