The next Lumia flagships might be jumping a step on the number line; skipping the anticipated 940 and 940 XL names many assumed would be on the way. PhoneArena.com, citing Chinese site Weibo, states that the upcoming flagship devices might be called the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL.

The latest Lumia from the 9xx line is the Lumia 930. It’s been over a year since that phone was originally introduced but traditionally companies only release a flagship once per year so this jump would be a variation from tradition. The Lumia 930 was announced in April 2014 while the Verizon exclusive Lumia Icon with practically identical specs was announced in February 2014.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Microsoft skipped a number. They famously skipped over Windows 9 in favor of Windows 10.

In addition to these reports about number skipping, if true, these also indicate that Microsoft is sticking to the Lumia plus number naming scheme for the next flagship.
